Republican Party committee should not have endorsed
To the editor:
It is my contention that the Lee County Executive Committee, Republican Party made a big mistake by endorsing specific candidates, and excluding others, in the recent primary. A primary is supposed to be a free election within the party to determine who will represent the party in the general election.
It would have been very helpful to the voter if the committee were to send out all available data on each candidate, thus allowing the voter to decide whom he feels is the best candidate. In the committee telling the voter exactly how to vote accomplished two things; insulting the intelligence of the voter and excluding extremely capable and long standing and loyal party members.
I don’t believe that the intent of the committee was to start a Tammany Hall machine type of political system; but the results speak for themselves.
