Burton E. Van Deusen Sr.
Burton E. Van Deusen Sr., 99, of Bokeelia died on July 15, 2011, at The Woodlands in Cape Coral. He was born on March 12, 1912, in St. Paul, Minn., a child of William P. and Alma T. (Johanson) Van Deusen.
A resident of Bokeelia for the last four years, he previously lived in the central part of Florida, moving there from Miami. He was a Coast Guard veteran and was very active in the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
He had a very interesting career with vaudeville act “Van and Arrvola,” which included song and dance, show business, theatrical agent. He was captain on cruise ships, also was a Mason and captain of Mahi Temple Patrol in Miami, Fla., and for many years he was a member of the Shiner’s.
He was the husband of Arrvola (Oxman) Van Deusen, who died in 2006.
He is survived by his sons, Burton E. (Wendy) Van Deusen Jr. of East Hampton, N.Y., and William P. (Joyce) Van Deusen II of Bokeelia; his grandchildren, Philip K. (Vanessa) Van Deusen and Taylor Ashley Van Deusen and his great-granddaughter, Leia Van Deusen.
The funeral will be held privately by the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the National Parkinson Foundation, Gift Processing Center, PO Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5018.
