Frances Jean Kopel
Frances Jean Kopel, 85, passed away at the Odd Fellow-Rebekah home in Mattoon. IL. on June 18, 2009 at 4:30 pm. Frances retired from teaching in the Glen Ellyn, IL School District in 1982 and then moved to Cape Coral with her late husband, Robert. She moved to Mattoon to be closer to family in May, 2009.
Frances graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Iowa State University and from Northern Illinois University with a Masters in Education. Frances was an avid bridge player, a bowler, a golfer, and a member of the US Power Squadron. She was born August 5, 1923 in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of the late Corwin and Jean (Arthur) Bennett. She married Robert L. Kopel on November 4, 1945.
She is survived by her son, Scott Kopel, of Tallahassee, Fl, and her two daughters, Roann Kopel (Robert Dean) of Charleston, IL and Marcia King (David King), and her two granddaughters, Melissa and Erica King all of Johnston, IA. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother and her sister.
A celebration of Frances’ life will take place in Cape Coral, in November, 2009. For those who wish, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Odd Fellow- Rebekah Home, 201 Lafayette East, Mattoon 61938, IL or Lincolnland Hospice 700 Broadway Ave. East, Mattoon, IL 61938.
