Adam ‘Chuck’ I. Taracko
Ret. U.S. Army Adam “Chuck” I. Taracko passed away peacefully with family and the thoughtful caregivers at Juniper Village of Cape Coral. He was born March 13, 1917, in Snowshoe, Pa., to John and Anna Halsnik Taracko.
He was the youngest of 13 children. He was formerly of San Antonio, Texas, Wheeling, Ill., and many other parts of the world.
He served his country in World War II and the Korean Conflict, and he saw action at Omaha Beach, the Siegfried Line and the crossing of the Ruhr River in Germany.
He was awarded a battlefield commission and received many commendations, including the Purple Heart for wounds incurred during the Siegfried Line capture.
After retiring from the Army in 1964, he served his country for another 27 years as a civil servant for the military, retiring a second time at the age of 77.
He was married to Betty J. Kovick for 65 years.
He was preceded in death by his 12 brothers and sisters, and the love of his life, Betty.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Ann Andersen; son-in-law, Niels P. Andersen; and grandson, his pride and joy, Kai F. Andersen of Madison, Wis.
Private burial services will be conducted at Arlington National Cemetery.
