Roy E. Bush
Roy E. Bush (Gene), 64, a former resident of Cape Coral, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
He graduated from Tuscaloosa High School in 1963 and from the University of Alabama in 1968. He moved to Cape Coral in 1974 and retired from the Doctor Ella Piper Center in 2003.
In 2007 he returned to Tuscaloosa, Ala., where he enjoyed renewing friendships and family connections. He was an avid Bible scholar and history buff.
He enjoyed staying abreast of politics, current events and following his beloved Crimson Tide football team. He especially enjoyed traveling the world to visit his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Sadie; children, Lt. Col. (USAF) Laurie E. Johnson of Sacramento, Calif., Col. (USAF) Timothy E. Bush of Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan, and Prof. Jerre E. Bush of Kiryu, Japan; and grandchildren, Dillon, Rachel, Cassidy, Sadie, Nina and Isaiah.
A memorial service was held Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa with his lifelong friend, the Rev. Gene Dockery, and Dr. Hayse Boyd officiating.
In lieu of any flowers, his desire and the family’s request is that donations be made to Gideons International.
