Joseph McGowan Armstrong

Joseph McGowan Armstrong, 81, of Cape Coral and Fort Wayne, Ind., died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, at his Cape Coral residence. A native of Kosciusko County, Ind., he was born Feb. 13, 1927, the son of William and Zella (McGowan) Armstrong.

He served in the U.S. Army in Germany and Korea.

He was an insurance appraiser and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Manchester College in North Manchester, Ind. He married Betty in Aug. 14, 1949.

He was a member of the Sol D. Bayless Masonic Lodge 359 Fort Wayne and the South Fort Wayne Kiwanis.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty Armstrong; brothers, Donald, Franklin and William “Gene” Armstrong; sister, Mary Ann Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Louise Cherry, Norma Richter, Betty Bullick and Sue Walker.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Coral Ridge Funeral Home, 1630 Pine Island Road. Interment will follow in Coral Ridge Cemetery.
