Josephine "Jo Anne" Fawcett

Josephine “Jo Anne” Fawcett, 82, of Cape Coral, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, at Hope Hospice. She was born July 6, 1926, in Williamsport, Pa., to Michele and Rose Paolo.

She graduated from Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pa., with a bachelor’s degree. She began her teaching career in Tamaqua, Pa., where she taught for 25 years. She was voted Women of the Year by the Pennsylvania Teachers Association in 1959.

Upon retirement in 1979 she moved to Cape Coral, where she was a member of the Cape Coral Elks Lodge 2596 and the Business and Professional Women/USA.

Her family includes her nephews, Anthony Paola of Berlin, N.J., Michael Paolo of Pine Hill, N.J., and Michael Cronin of La Jolla, Calif.; and five great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean, in 1991.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Williamsport, Pa.
