John Angelo Picciano
John Angelo Picciano, 87, of Cape Coral, lost his brave battle with cancer Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008. He was born April 26, 1921, in Cleveland, Ohio.
He was raised in Castropignano, Italy, before returning to Cleveland as a teenager. Married for 66 years to his beloved wife, Clara (Hapman), they settled in Cape Coral after retirement some 25 years ago.
He proudly and valiantly served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands.
He was a professional musician and music teacher, and continued to compose and play his accordion in Florida. He loved gardening, the game and fellowship at the Cape Coral Bocci Association, and his many friendships, but most of all his country and his family.
He was a loving father to sons, John and Charles; daughter, Amy and son-in-law Kiyoshi Aki; and devoted “Papa” to his grandchildren, Charles and Shelly, Michael, Concetta, John, Angela and Taro Hamano, and Kyla Aki.
Visitation will be held from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of Harvey-Engelhardt-Metz Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at St. Andrews Catholic Church, with entombment following at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens.
