Gary B. Faas

Gary B. Faas 79, passed away Thursday, May 29, 2008 at home, surrounded by his family.

He was born on a farm in Williamsburg, Iowa. Gary graduated from Iowa State University in 1950, with a Bachelors of Science degree in Agronomy. Following college, he served in the United States Army, as an Artillery Officer. After the service, Gary worked for the Ralston Purina Company as a salesman, and sales manager for several years. He returned to take over the family farm when his own father retired.

In 1971, he moved his family to Cape Coral, Florida, where he became a Realtor and broker. He opened his own firm, The Property Place, in the early 1980s. He and his wife retired to Zellwood, Fla. in 2002. While in Zellwood, Gary worked for the Zellwood Golf Course.

He had a love of bicycling that was contagious. Gary was one of the founding members of the Caloosa Riders Bicycle Club of Fort Myers. He also served as the club president. Gary worked diligently to advocate for additional bicycle paths throughout Lee County.

His parents, Floyd Faas and Roxie Ingram Faas, his brothers, Lauren Faas and Lee Faas, and his sister, Jeanette Mulligan, precede Gary in death.

Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Janice Marie Weber Faas, son Douglas Faas and his wife, Diane Faas, son Timothy Faas, daughter Sarah Faas, and daughter Mary Picard and her husband Henry Picard, seven grandchildren: Wendy, Jennifer, Christopher, Stacy, Travis, Chelsea, and Mitchell, and five great grandchildren.
