Alice R. (Brodie) Barrett
Alice R. (Brodie) Barrett died peacefully in her sleep Monday, March 24, 2008. She was born Nov. 28, 1916, in Haverhill, Mass., to John and Helen Brodie, now deceased.
She spent the majority of her life in the Merrimack Valley area. She graduated Haverhill High School in 1934. She met her husband Augustine (Gus) Barrett, now deceased, at a Canobie Lake Park dance in the ’30s; it was love at first sight.
After their marriage they went on to have four children, Carol Barrett (Stanley) Lea of Danville, Va., Robert (Patricia) Barrett of Merrimac, Mass., Jean Barrett Holland of Atkinson, N.H., and Joan Barrett (Clement) O’Brien of North Fort Myers, Fla., and Newburyport, Mass.
She leaves behind 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and niece, Ann Marie Barrett Ogden of Lawrence, Mass.
In addition to bringing up a family, she worked for 30 years at Western Electric and AT&T. She was active in the Tilton School PTA, Sacred Hearts Church Volunteers, and Elks Club and the Groveland Senior Citizens Club.
She loved life and loved to travel. Her favorite hobbies were dancing, reading and crossword puzzles. She was an expert seamstress, and through the years, she sewed numerous things for her children, grandchildren and later great-grandchildren, who all loved her dearly.
Funeral services will be held at a later date. Contributions may be made to her favorite charity, The Salvation Army.
