Cape Coral police have arrested two men alleged to have held employees of a local arcade at gunpoint during an armed robbery.

Jayilyn Thomas, 23, and Mikael Stewart, 24, were arrested in connection with a robbery that took place Monday morning at Hurricane Arcade on Pine Island Road around 10 a.m.

Thomas has been charged with robbery with a firearm.

Stewart has been charged with robbery with a firearm, and flee/elude a law enforcement officer.

Cape Coral Police Department officials state they received a 9-1-1 call that an armed robbery had just occurred at the arcade, where a male wearing a hooded sweatshirt and mask over his face came in through the back of the establishment and performed a robbery using a black handgun.

“The suspect grabbed a cash box from employees at gunpoint,” CCPD officials said in a release. “Witnesses saw a suspect flee on foot, and enter the passenger side door of a blue Honda SUV.”

Police officials state that CCPD officers located the vehicle, and when they activated lights and sirens, the SUV fled “at a high rate of speed.”

Police pursued the vehicle until it hit a pole, and landed in an embankment near Andalusia Boulevard and Durden Parkway, officials said.

Both suspects were detained on scene and identified.

“The investigation revealed that Stewart and Thomas conspired to and did commit an armed robbery at the Hurricane Arcade,” the CCPD states.

Thomas is currently in Lee County jail, with his bond not yet set.

Stewart is also currently in Lee County Jail. He has a bond set at $30,000 for the flee/elude charge, and no bond set for the armed robbery charge, as well as a probation violation.
