As of 6 p.m., there are 4,950 cases of the new coronavirus confirmed in Florida — a bump of 704 — as well as four additional deaths, one each in Collier, Palm Beach, Pinellas and Santa Rosa counties.

A total of 49,443 individuals have been tested: 44,481 have tested negative, 12 tests were inconclusive and 1,085 tests are pending results.

In Lee County, 152 individuals have tested positive as of 6 p.m. Sunday – 76 in Fort Myers, 21 in Cape Coral, 14 in Lehigh Acres, six each in North Fort Myers and Estero, two each on Sanibel and Fort Myers Beach and one on Captiva. Two positives were not classified by community.

COVID-19 is a highly contagious viral disease. For most individuals, symptoms are mild. For a minority, the disease becomes a type of viral pneumonia with severe complications. Especially at risk are those who are older, those with underlying health conditions and the immune-compromised.

Officials strongly urges all members of the public who can, remain at home so as to limit exposure and so limit the number of cases so as to not overwhelm the health care system with at-risk and severe cases.

Lee Health has 23 COVID-19 patients isolated in system hospitals. Nine patients have been discharged.

The system has submitted a total of 2,478 specimens for testing, and we have had a total of 91 presumptive positives since March 6.

Lee Health has 136 employees quarantined at home. Four employees have tested positive for COVID-19, up one since Saturday, after being exposed at work.

On Saturday, system mobile collection sites collected 137 specimens, and Lee TeleHealth had 148 virtual visits.
