Cape driver, passenger injured in accident

By Staff | Aug 10, 2012

A Cape Coral driver and his passenger were hospitalized Thursday evening after a truck struck their car in Fort Myers, according to authorities.

Anthony Bailey, 37, and Robert Caperton, 37, of Fort Myers, were both transported to Lee Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries following the crash, which occurred at Palm Beach Boulevard, near Marion Street.

Hospital officials reported Friday that both men were listed in critical condition.

At about 5:47 p.m., the Fort Myers Police Department responded to an accident. A Mazda Miata, being driven by Bailey, was traveling east on Palm Beach when the driver lost control of the car, according to police.

The Miata traveled over the raised median and into incoming traffic in the westbound lanes. A Chevy Silverado struck the Miata’s passenger side.

According to officials, Bailey was at fault for the crash and alcohol was a contributing factor. No one in the Silverado was injured during the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
