City Council will hold a special meeting Thursday, Aug. 11, to interview and eventually select Cape Coral’s new city auditor.

Council approved the proposal Monday night, setting the stage for its selection Thursday.

Each of the three candidates will have up to 45-minute interviews in front of council in council chambers.

Two candidates are from out of town and are eligible for up to $5,000 in relocation expenses, as approved by council.

The position became available when former City Auditor Dona Newman left in October 2010.

Margaret Krym took over the department on an interim basis following Newman’s departure.

Krym began with the city as a volunteer in the city auditor’s office in September 2007 and moved to a 3/4 assistant auditor position in April 2008. Krym became a full-time employee in November 2009.

Krym was educated at Oregon State University and San Francisco University before getting a B.A. in accounting from the University of Guam. Krym served as president of Asia Pacific Region of FHP International, a health care provider, before leaving the company to sail the Caribbean with her husband. Krym also worked for other private companies in Guam and California.

Another candidate, Alan Bray, served as Interim city auditor and assistant city auditor from 2003-06 for the city of Cape Coral, before leaving to work as deputy inspector general and audit manager for the Palm Beach County Clerk and comptroller in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Bray has also worked for Collier County and private companies in North Carolina and Missouri.

Bray was educated at the University of Missouri – Columbia, where he received a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

Lesia Anderson is the lone out-of-state candidate, currently serving as the senior financial systems auditor for the city of Atlanta.

Anderson previously served in the role of information technology / performance auditor for Hillsborough County in Tampa as well as other public and private positions in Georgia and the city of Atlanta.

Anderson received a master’s degree in human resources management from Troy State University in Alabama.

Council is expected to meet 4 p.m. Thursday.
