Burke tabbed as new superintendent

By Staff | May 17, 2011

The Lee County School Board this morning selected Joseph Burke as the new superintendent for the school district. The board is currently discussing the contract for Burke, who is currently the superintendent for Monroe County Schools in Key West, Fla.

The vote to select Burke was 4-1 with Jeanne Dozier opposing the decision.

The board had, at an earlier meeting, set a tentative hire date of June 1, so the new superintendent could start on July 1.

The other finalists for the job were Steven Cobb, an academic officer of Fort Wayne Community Schools in Fort Wayne, Ind.; Nancy Graham, principal of Naples High School in Naples, Fla.; and Constance Jones, chief academic officer for the Lee County School District.
