Choral students from Cape Elementary are departing today for Walt Disney World in Orlando to perform in Disney’s Magic Music Days.

For the last 10 years, the school has sent students to participate in the 25-year-old musical program. Thousands of singers, dancers and musicians are recognized as “cast members” for the day and perform for patrons visiting the park.

Interested participants have to apply and be reviewed by Disney officials before they are allowed to perform.

“It should be a big, special day for all of us,” said Dorothy Graham, music teacher at Cape Elementary. “We are doing a show of patriotic music that is all about America.”

In the past, students have performed on a large stage in the Magic Kingdom, but with larger than expected numbers, the park has moved the operation to Epcot Center.

Graham said 107 singers from Cape Elementary are traveling on two 55-passenger buses. Ten of the students are in middle school, but choose to attend because they are former members of the choir.

Approximately 200 parents and relatives are driving on their own.

The buses depart at 6 a.m. today and are set to arrive at 10 a.m. The group is set to return home at 11 p.m.

Students will receive discounts on entering the park and are free to enjoy the attractions. At 2 p.m., they meet with Disney representatives and prepare for the performance.

Cape Elementary’s performance begins at 3:45 p.m. and lasts 25 minutes, said Graham.

“They get to enjoy Epcot and learn about our world and all of the wonderful things to learn, as well as rides and the different countries,” she said.

Schools that participate in Magic Music Days rehearse personally with a guest talent coordinator from Disney who works on all aspects of the performance. They also receive a commemorative gift and a keepsake award.
