Road closure on Estero Parkway Extension set for Friday, Saturday nights

By Staff | Mar 4, 2009

The third of 12 smaller steel beams for Lee County’s Estero Parkway Extension project is expected to ship from Tampa Thursday night and arrive at the project site in the early morning hours of Friday, March 6. It will then be installed Friday night, which will require closure of the section of I-75 between Corkscrew Road and Alico Road between the hours of 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. During the closure, northbound interstate traffic will be diverted onto Corkscrew Road and up Ben Hill Griffin Parkway, and southbound interstate traffic will be diverted onto Alico Road and down Three Oaks Parkway.

In addition, the first of four larger steel beams for the project will be leaving Tampa tonight, and is expected to take two to three days to arrive. It is anticipated that the larger beam will be installed on Saturday night, March 7, which will require closure of the same section of I-75 noted above between the hours of 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. The same diversions noted above will be in effect.

The delivery of both beams will be by slow-moving, wide-load trucks escorted by law enforcement, and will be entering Lee County via I-75. Motorists should drive with extreme caution when approaching the trucks and their escorts.

Information about the interstate closures will also be posted on the electronic message signs in the work area. Information about future beam deliveries and installations will be released as it becomes known.
