Legacy Run/Walk and Open House set for March 7
The Dr. Piper Center for Social Services second annual Legacy Run/Walk and Open House set for March 7 will offer a day of fun for the whole family, organizers say.
Runners will race across the Caloosahatchee River on the old Edison Bridge. The 5k run/walk starts at 8 a.m. at the Dr. Piper Center on Evans Avenue. Runners and walkers of all ages can get an early start by registering online at www.drpipercenter.org or on site the day of starting at 7:15 am. Pre-registration $15 per adult / $10 per child (9 & under) / max $50 per immediate family. Race day registration is $20. All runners get an official race shirt and a free massage by Heritage Institute after the race and prizes will be awarded in all age categories. Pre-race registration packet pick-up is on March 6 from 2 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. @ the Dr. Piper Center for Social Services.
After the race, runners and the community can join the celebration at the Open House with food, fun and games and live entertainment. Enjoy the Battle of the Choirs, see Dr. Ella Piper’s Memorabilia, bounce houses, face painting, kids fingerprinting, meet McGruff the Crime Dog and more surprises. Food will be available for purchase: grilled chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, popcorn, snow cones and so much more.
All proceeds will provide mentoring to more than 2500 children, frail elderly, and employment and volunteer opportunities to low-income seniors through the Senior Companion Program, Foster Grandparent Program and Senior Employment Program. Bring friends & family and celebrate Dr. Ella Piper’s Legacy of Mentoring Children and Compassion to the Frail Elderly in our communities.
Organizers offer special thanks to the sponsors: Enterprise Car Rental, Costco, The Ft. Myers Redevelopment Agency, City of Fort Myers, Fresh from Florida, Velasco Village, and Phil Hobt Advertising Design.
