Police are investigating a carjacking after a woman detailing her car with her children at a Fort Myers car wash was grabbed by the hair, punched, and then had her SUV stolen Saturday night

Fort Myers police received the call at 8:58 p.m., informing them of the theft at the Spot Not Car Wash located at 3900 Palm Beach Boulevard.

The woman told officers she was at the car wash with her two children when four men approached her. One of the men grabbed her by the hair, punched her in the stomach and demanded her SUV. The victim’s daughters were told to get out of the SUV by one of the other suspects. The men then took off in her vehicle.

Officers located the SUV on Veronica Shoemaker Boulevard and attempted a traffic stop between Edison Avenue and Capri Street. The carjackers did not stop. The suspects continued traveling east to Dupree Street to a dead end. They fled from the SUV on foot toward the Beecher Village neighborhood. Police pursued the men on foot and set up a perimeter with the assistance of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and their aviation unit but did not locate the suspects.

The victims did not need medical attention.

Anyone with information is asked to call FMPD at 321-7700 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS.
