Cape man in critical
The condition of a North Fort Myers man who was injured in a motorcycle accident in Cape Coral worsened over the weekend, according to officials
James Gates, 50, had been listed in serious condition at Lee Memorial Hospital, but is now listed as critical.
Gates was listed in life-threatening condition Wednesday after being trauma alerted to the Lee Memorial Hospital, and was upgraded to serious condition on Thursday and Friday. It is unclear how his condition progressed through the weekend.
Police said Gates braked for stopped traffic on westbound Pine Island Road and spun out of control, rolling left and striking his head on the pavement Wednesday at about 5:50 p.m. Police said he was not wearing a helmet.
Gates’ blood alcohol content was .215, according to an initial blood alcohol screening by police, officials said. The legal threshold for impairment is .08.
A stopped minivan was struck in the rear bumper during the accident, but the driver, Dwight Conrad of Fort Myers, was not injured.
