By Staff | Sep 29, 2008

A 24-year-old Cape Coral woman died in a single-car crash Sunday. Her death is the city's 10th traffic fatality this year.

The crash occurred shortly before midnight. Cape police responded to an accident at 11:22 p.m. in the 4300 block of SW 7th Place involving a 2008 Nissan. The driver of the vehicle, Kristie Nicole Donlon, 1443 Windsor Court, died on the scene due to injuries suffered in the crash, officials said.

Donlon’s vehicle was traveling north on Southwest 7th Place and went through the intersection at Southwest 43rd Lane, police officials said in a prepared statement issued this morning. The vehicle entered the private driveway of the Cape Coral Alliance Church at 4307 Skyline Boulevard. For unknown reasons, the Nissan accelerated and veered to the left and began to rotate counterclockwise as it drove over speed bumps in the church driveway. The vehicle struck a street sign on the passenger side, which continued the vehicle’s rotation. The Nissan then traveled through the intersection of Southwest 43rd Terrace and entered the front yard of 4218 Southwest 7th Place. The vehicle was moving sideways, and the driver’s side door impacted a large tree. The Nissan came to rest against the tree, officials stated.

The driver of vehicle was pronounced dead on scene as a result of her injuries. The crash remains under investigation.

The city had 13 fatalities in 2007.
