In two weeks, physicians from Estero Urgent Care will hold a community health fair in Cape Coral that will benefit residents who cannot afford annual physical exams.

The Third Annual Community Health Fair will be held from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 21 at the United Way and SWFAS Youth Center, at 1105 Cultural Park Blvd.

Estero Urgent Care, a walk-in clinic that offers family health care without appointments, has locations in Naples on Immokalee Road and in Estero on Corkscrew Road.

The health fair in Cape Coral will offer local residents the opportunity to receive free medical and physical exams including screenings for cholesterol, blood pressure and diabetes. Also, according to the center, the first 50 people who attend will receive a free flu shot.

“The Cape Coral event is the third of a series of monthly events Estero Urgent Care will be hosting in various locations throughout Southwest Florida,” said Dr. Robert McGann, founder and owner of the center. “Estero Urgent Care will be hosting these community health fairs as part of our commitment to serve an important need out there.”

McGann founded Estero Urgent Care as a partner center to the original clinic in Naples opened in 1996. He has more than 30 years of medical and surgical experience.

The center not only provides routine examinations and services, but it also offers treatment for skin cancer, joint injections, cyst drainage and other minor surgical procedures.

Jennifer Shaffery, spokesperson for Estero Urgent Care, said the first health fair was hosted in Immokalee and the second was in Estero.

“We do it every month in Southwest Florida,” said Shaffery. “It provides free medical services for communities.”

There will also be 14 local non-profit organizations participating in the community health fair, including Florida Blood Centers, Children’s Home Society, the United Way, YMCA and more.

“The mandate of our center is to basically care about the community in need. The owner of the company took the initiative to do something about this with the crisis we’ve been living in,” said Shaffery.
