The mother police credited with wrestling a handgun from the alleged Bobbie Noonan Child Care facility shooter was again brought to tears during an award ceremony Tuesday afternoon, though this time not her own.

Months after Louise Zoller was called a hero by officials for her actions on Jan. 25 when Robert Dunn reportedly shot and killed his wife Christine inside the Cape day care — actions which many argued potentially saved the lives of children within the building — Zoller’s daughter, Morgan Hunter, 11, was brought into the spotlight for her critical role that day.

It seems heroism runs in the family: Morgan was the overall winner for the monthly Do the Right Thing awards in Cape Coral, credited with keeping children calm during the day care shooting.

“I’m very excited,” Morgan said following Tuesday afternoon’s ceremonies. “I don’t know what else to say.”

Morgan and Zoller were at the day care facility the day of the shooting to pick up Morgan’s 3-year-old sister, Hannah.

Officials said Morgan stayed with children who were hiding in an interior bathroom with Christine, and even helped keep them calm after Christine had been shot. After police arrived on scene, Morgan led the children out of the building.

“My heart just told me what to do, that’s all that matters,” Morgan said.

“I’m excited that she’s being honored,” Zoller said of her daughter. “She’s seeing the positive again.”

Though Morgan says mom is the real hero, the Cape police and fire departments felt Morgan was more than deserving of the award. So did her family, who accompanied her to accept the award.

Zoller said she and her family are doing better since the shooting, and though they had their down days, she has learned to take the small things in stride.

“With time, it’ll get easier,” Zoller said.
