With the season quickly coming to an end, the Lee County Community Band is set to play its last concert Sunday. The organization performs a show once a month on Sundays beginning in November and running through April.

Richard Bradstreet, director for the Lee County Community Band, said attendance for this current season’s shows has been high.

“We have had a really good year,” he said. “We had 900 people at the last show and 800 at the one before that.”

He said although the band is expecting about 800 people to attend the final show, he is sure some seasonal residents have already packed up and gone back up north.

“We have already lost two of our band members who come down from Canada,” said Bradstreet. “It is just that time of the year.”

The show, which is being held in the Cape Coral High School auditorium, will feature a wide variety of selections that are sure to delight attendees. Selections to be performed include such genres as classical, marches, patriotic music and more.

“I always try to pick selections with a lot of variety,” said Bradstreet. “I like to keep the audience entertained as well as the band members.”

Leroy Anderson’s “Clarinet Candy” will be among the songs and will feature a clarinet solo. Bradstreet said the song is very up tempo, happy and bright.

Norman Jones, the band’s master of ceremonies and vocalist, will sing “The Holy City.”

A “Patriotic Fantasy,” which gets the crowd involved through audience participation, features two patriotic selections that Bradstreet is sure the crowd will be familiar with.

“The audience will sing ‘Grand Ole Flag’ and ‘Yankee Doodle Dandy,'” he said. “I’m pretty sure that everyone knows them.”

Other selections will include a performance of “Dry Bones,” where the audience will get an anatomy lesson from Jones and a skeleton, and a Barry Manilow on Tour medley featuring the popular tunes “Jump, Shout, Boogie,” “Even Now,” “Daybreak,” “Ready to take a Chance Again” and “Copacabana.”

Bradstreet said at every show attendees receive a program, and those who would like to get on the mailing list to receive information about upcoming concert dates should write their information on the program and leave on their chair.

“It is going to be a great time,” said Bradstreet. “Anyone who likes band music will love it.”

The show will begin at 3 p.m. Admission is free.
