Son of burned mansion’s owner dies
MIAMI (AP) – The son of the man whose Miami Beach castle spectacularly burned to the ground nine days ago has died.
Joseph Conrad Burke was one of six children fathered by Capt. Mike Burke, who became a millionaire after launching the now-defunct Windjammer Barefoot Cruises.
Few details are yet known about Joseph Burke’s death, which occurred at 3 a.m. Saturday.
According to the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner’s office, Burke’s death remains unclassified.
Burke’s father recently received citywide attention when his Miami Beach castle — which included a shark-filled moat and gargoyles on the walls — went up in flames on July 17.
