BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) – Authorities say a Bradenton man recovering from a gunshot wound in the hospital is linked to the fatal shooting of a pregnant woman.

Manatee County sheriff’s officials say 28-year-old Everrick Houston was arrested Friday in connection with the shooting of 19-year-old Crystal Johnson. She was seven months pregnant. Her daughter was delivered but died at the hospital.

Authorities say two gunmen busted into Johnson’s apartment on July 12 and opened fire. Her boyfriend fired back and struck one of the suspects. Detectives believe the home invasion was motivated by drugs.

Shortly after, authorities say Houston went to the hospital with a gunshot wound.

Sheriff officials say physical evidence links Houston to the shooting. Houston faces two counts of murder.
