Plane makes emergency landing in Daytona Beach
DAYTONA BEACH (AP) – A Fort Lauderdale-bound plane carrying 128 passengers and crew made an emergency landing at Daytona Beach International Airport Tuesday after a flight attendant detected a bit of smoke in the cabin.
The Spirit Airlines plane landed safely and no injuries were reported although a few passengers complained of shortness of breath, said Stephen Cooke, the airport’s director of business development.
Cooke said no one was taken to a hospital and the plane was not evacuated.
Misty Pinson, a Spirit Airlines spokeswoman, said once the plane’s engines were turned off, the smoke dissipated.
The Airbus plane took off from Chicago.
Airlines officials were considering how to get the passengers to their destination, about 150 miles away.
