Students charged for torturing chicken
GAINESVILLE (AP) – Authorities say two Alachua County high school students have been charged with animal cruelty after a video surfaced on the Internet of them smashing a chicken into the ground at school.
The 18-year-old Hawthorne High School students, Patrick Dougan and Robert Sylvester Gordon, were arrested Monday. Officials say the April video was recently sent to the county’s animal services department.
Authorities learned that FFA students had been learning to kill and properly package chickens, but an instructor said what Dougan and Gordon did was not the method taught in class.
If convicted, the students face up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
