Law expands breast cancer screening
TALLAHASSEE (AP) – Gov. Charlie Crist has signed a new law to expand breast cancer screening although no money has been appropriated to pay for it.
Crist signed the bill (HB 1269) Wednesday during a ceremony at a Tallahassee hospital. The governor downplayed the lack of money, saying it doesn’t cost a lot to make screening referrals.
The bill creates an early detection and referral program for women at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level and who lack health insurance coverage for screening.
