Catholic university to host Mass for Schiavo anniversary

By Staff | Mar 30, 2009

NAPLES (AP) – Ave Maria University in southwest Florida is hosting a national Mass on the fourth anniversary of Terri Schiavo’s death.

The fledgling Catholic university and community founded by Dominos Pizza magnate Thomas Monaghan plans the mass for Tuesday afternoon in the university’s $24-million oratory.

Schiavo was the Tampa-area woman who became the center of a sensational right-to-die battle that reached the U.S. Supreme Court, Congress, the White House and even the Vatican.

Doctors said Schiavo was in vegetative state. She died two weeks after her husband, Michael, removed her feeding tube.

Her parents and siblings fought the effort in court for years, hoping she might recover.
