Casey Anthony faces October trial

By Staff | Mar 2, 2009

ORLANDO (AP) – A central Florida mother will go on trial in October on a charge of murdering her 2-year-old daughter under a timetable set Monday.

Casey Anthony’s first-degree murder trial was tentatively set for Oct. 12.

She is accused of killing her daughter, Caylee, whose remains were found in the woods in Orlando last December, six months after she disappeared.

Casey Anthony claimed that Caylee was kidnapped by a baby sitter and has pleaded not guilty. Hundreds of volunteers had helped search for Caylee after she was reported missing over the summer.

Circuit Judge Stan Strickland also agreed to temporarily stop the public release of a jailhouse video of Casey Anthony reacting to news that Caylee’s remains had been found until her defense attorney can view the recording.

Her defense attorney, Jose Baez, claimed that detectives had made arrangements with Orange County Jail guards to have Casey Anthony’s reaction recorded. To that end, Casey Anthony was involuntarily taken to the jail’s medical clinic where a television showed news reports about the body’s discovery last December, according to Baez.
