PORT CHARLOTTE (AP) – An autopsy has been scheduled for a 14-year-old Florida boy who died after falling into a muddy trench at a church construction site.

Authorities in Charlotte County found Danilo Riccardi Jr. buried in quicksand-like dirt and water on Sunday. Fire department spokeswoman Dee Hawkins says the boy had been trying to get water from the trench to mix concrete when he was “sucked in.” It took authorities two hours to dig out his body from the 8-by-10-foot hole.

Hawkins says the boy and his younger brothers were helping their father, who was working at the site.
