Tip line created for animal fight reports

By Staff | Dec 29, 2008

TALLAHASSEE (AP) – Floridians now have a new option to help crack down on animal fighting.

A tip line created in Georgia following the case of former NFL player Michael Vick is being expanded to Florida, which is considered one of the top three states with major dogfighting operations.

Vick is serving a 23-month prison term in Leavenworth, Kan., for bankrolling a dogfighting conspiracy and is scheduled to be released from federal custody in July.

The new hotline takes anonymous calls about dogfighting, or other forms of animal fighting, and offers rewards of up to $5,000. The Animal Fighting Tip Line is operated by the Humane Society of the United States. The phone number is 1-877-847-4787.
