Historic sign returns in Miami

By Staff | Dec 3, 2008

MIAMI (AP) – A historic sign is back up in the Miami sun.

The 35-foot illuminated sign shows the pigtailed Coppertone girl with her dog pulling at the bottom of her bathing suit. It has been a fixture of Miami since 1959 when it was installed to promote Coppertone, but it was taken down in May.

The sign was refurbished and reinstalled on the side of a different office building. It now sits at 7300 Biscayne Blvd.

Coppertone was invented by Miami Beach pharmacist Benjamin Green.
