By Staff | Nov 15, 2008

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) _ The family of a teenager fatally shot at a Fort Lauderdale high school is calling on officials to improve security at schools and reduce violence.

The family of 15-year-old Amanda Collett urged Broward County officials Friday to consider using metal detectors at schools and find other ways to strengthen security. Collett’s Aunt, Teshawnia Thompson, said the family wants to prevent future violence.

Later Friday night, Dillard High School parents met with Broward school officials and administrators to discuss school security in the wake of Wednesday’s shooting. The meeting was open only to those with students at the school.

Team Wimberly is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting. She was being held in jail and prosecutors are considering charging her as an adult.
