What is the St Katharine Drexel Feast Day Festival?
The Catholic Church assigns one date out of the year for each and every canonized saint – known as the saint’s feast day. The saints are remembered on their individual feast days in some very special ways. St. Katharine Drexel’s Feast Day is March 3 and the St. Katharine Drexel Parish honor her with a celebration of community.
The church’s first Feast Day Celebration was in March 2001 the year after St. Katharine Drexel was canonized. St Katharine was the first American to be canonized. She loved and helped many children no matter color or race.
From 2001-2020, the church has continued to keep this event affordable and geared towards community, especially the children. This celebration is still the biggest SKD Parish Family Event.
On that first Feast Day, the parish family came together and invited all to attend a one-day event of games, rides and good home cooked food. Over the years it has expanded to a three-day celebration beginning with Friday evening when there is a free concert performed by the SKD Choir nearly 100 strong.
In 2020, a car show was added on Saturday morning and Saturday evening there is the Feast Day Dinner Dance. Finally, Sunday’s festival. There’s always entertainment provided throughout the day and you can chow down on the food cooked and served by the SKD parishioners.
The Cape Coral K9 and Fire Department demonstrations are there along with games and more.
