‘The Real Truth about Cosmetic Surgery’ seminar

Mid-Cape Racquet & Health Club, at 1300 Ceitus Terrace, invites members and guests to attend a free seminar from one of Southwest Florida’s board certified plastic surgeons, Dr. Robert J. Brueck. Children’s Day

In celebration of Children’s Day, the Florida Skin Center will open its doors to the area’s needy children to help with their skin care needs. Edison State College

Edison State College, 8099 College Parkway, Fort Myers, is offering the following continuing education classes:

– Nurse Refresher and Remedial: Program is an intensive program of didactic, 96 hours, and clinical experiences, 96 hours. It is also approved by the Florida Board of Nursing for remediation of the nursing graduate who has not been successful with the NCLEX-RN exam. Lectures, home studies, skills lab and acute hospital clinical experiences are provided in a relaxed atmosphere to promote learning. Home study consists of 40 hours. It will be held from 4-7 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Cost is $1,000.

– CPR for Baby sitters: Parents like to know that their baby sitter is prepared for any emergency. CPR for Baby sitters is designed to teach baby sitters how to deal with a child who is not breathing or choking, or whose heart has stopped beating. Topics include one- and two-rescuer infant and child CPR, choking and safety. Class is an American Heart Association Pediatric Basic Life Support Course, designed for baby sitters. Participants receive an AHA certificate valid for two years. Class size is limited. One-day class will be held June 27 from 9 a.m.-noon. Cost is $60.

Lee Mental Health names new chief medical officer

Dr. Donald J. Baracskay II has been named vice president and chief medical officer of Lee Mental Health Center Inc., the Fort Myers-based nonprofit community behavioral health care provider.

Most recently, he worked as a staff psychiatrist at Turning Point Hospital in Moultrie, Ga. Prior to that, Baracskay was the medical director at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, Ga., and vice president of Medical Affairs for Harbor Behavioral Healthcare in Toledo, Ohio.

Lee Mental Health operates two campuses, the Ruth Cooper campus and VISTA campus. The agency has provided mental health and substance abuse recovery services for Lee County residents since 1969.

Lee Mental Health Center Inc. is a United Way Partner Agency funded, in part, through contracts with the state of Florida’s Department of Children and Families, Lee County Board of County Commissioners, private donations and grants from the Cape Coral Community Foundation, Southwest Florida Community Foundation, The Able Trust, Gannett Foundation and the city of Fort Myers.

Senior Wheels

The Senior Wheels USA Program makes available power wheelchairs to senior citizens and the permanently disabled at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify. The power wheelchairs are provided to those who can no longer walk safely, nor self-propel a manual wheelchair, and who meet the additional guidelines of the program. CPR classes

The American Red Cross of Lee County will conduct free adult CPR/AED classes to celebrate National CPR/AED Awareness Week on June 6 at the Urgent Care Center of Southwest Florida, 10201 Arcos Ave., Estero.

Sudden cardiac arrest kills more than 900 adults each day in the United States and providing CPR immediately following sudden cardiac arrest can double or triples a victim’s chance of survival.

Join the Red Cross and become prepared to save a life.
