Extreme Makeover Mailbox contest

Mailbox Improvement Month is not until May, but the Fort Myers/Cape Coral Post Offices are holding an “Extreme Makeover Mailbox” contest in preparation for the month.

Check out the mailbox and see if it needs a face lift. If so, make plans now to spiff it up and enter the contest. The rules are simple:

– Take a photo of the existing mailbox that needs a makeover.

– Make the changes and take a photo of the new, mailbox.

– Mail both photos, along with name, address and phone number, to USPS Consumer Council, 79 Mid Cape Terrace, Cape Coral, FL 33991.

Entries will be accepted until March 31.

Cape Coral R/Seahawks

The Cape Coral R/Seahawks will host radio control pilots from all over the country Saturday-Sunday. They will bring the latest and greatest in model aeroplanes, including jets, electric planes and gas-powered planes. The aeroplanes will range in size from 80-inch wingspans to more than 15-foot wingspans. The planes will fly at the airfield, showing off the skills of the pilots and the capabilities of the planes themselves. Rotary Park Environmental Center presents:

– Friday: Gardening class on palms and cycads from -3 p.m. Cost is $10 for residents and $11 for non-residents.

Bowditch Point Park

Take an educational walk through Matanzas Pass Preserve and Bowditch Point Park with a naturalist. Bring a hat, bug spray, water and a camera. Bowditch Point walks are held from 9:30-11 a.m. Tuesdays at 50 Estero Blvd., Fort Myers Beach. The walk is free with paid parking.

Urban Farm Bus tour

Donations needed

Lee County Animal Services has a great need for cat food and cat litter to stock the agency’s community pet pantry. Owners who need assistance may contact Lee County Animal Services at 533-7387 to be placed on an approved list to receive pet food. Anyone who can assist by donating pet food, especially cat food, cat litter or other pet products, may bring them to the shelter at 5600 Banner Drive in Fort Myers. Donations may be left at the door if the shelter is not open.
