History Program at FGCU to host the Florida Conference of Historians Feb. 27- 28 at Harborside Convention Center

Florida Gulf Coast University College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences will host the “Florida Conference of Historians,” 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 27, and 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Harborside Convention Center, 1375 Monroe Street, downtown Fort Myers.

The conference is open to the public and admission includes a dinner cruise on the Caloosahatchee River where the keynote speech and awards banquet will be held Friday, Feb. 27, at 7:30 p.m.

Historians and graduate students will present recent research in all fields of history including Florida, military and world history at the 49th annual meeting. The teaching of history and pedagogical issues will also be discussed.

Professor of History at Ave Maria University Michael Sugrue, one of the “Superstar Teachers” featured in Princeton University’s video-lecture series, will be the keynote speaker.
