‘Murder at Sunset’ cruise
Banana Bay Tour Company and Over The Top out of Cape Harbour will start its “Murder at Sunset” cruise Saturday. The comedy show is a mystery cruise where passengers have to put clues together to figure out the killer. It leaves at 5 p.m. and returns at 7 p.m. Cost is $40 per person. Book discussion
Lisa Black is a latent print examiner and crime scene investigator for the city of Cape Coral Police Department. Her novel, “Takeover,” deals with a forensic scientist caught in the middle of a bank robbery/hostage situation. A book discussion will be held from 3-5 p.m. Feb. 8. Wings of Freedom tour
The Collings Foundation brings its Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress “Nine O Nine” heavy bomber, Consolidated B-24J Liberator “Witchcraft” heavy bomber and North American Dual Control P-51C Mustang “Betty Jane” to Page Field General Aviation Airport today-Wednesday for its Wings of Freedom tour. The public is invited to take ground tours or make reservations for flight experiences. Walk-through tours are available for a donation of $12 for adults and $6 for children under 12. Hickey’s Creek kayak trip
A six-hour Hickey’s Creek kayak trip will take place Thursday. It begins and ends at the Caloosahatchee Regional Park campground. Eat lunch and hike at Hickey’s Creek mitigation park before paddling back. Children must be accompanied by an adult. All kayaking equipment is provided. Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre is creating a cookbook and is in need of favorite home-cooked recipes. Gulf Writers Association Writing Contest
The Gulf Coast Writers Association is encouraging writers from Southwest Florida to enter the 2008-2009 Gulf Writers Association Writing Contest. Original works of fiction, nonfiction and poetry will be awarded prizes of $100, $50 and $25 for first, second and third place in each category. The contest is open to members and non-members. Fiction and nonfiction works must be at least 800 words and no more than 2,000. Poetry is limited to 40 lines or less. The deadline for submissions is Saturday and winners must be present to receive their awards at the March 28 meeting. The contest will help GCWA fulfill its goal of assisting Southwest Florida writers to stimulate and improve their skills. GCWA expects a high level of contest participation.
