O negative type blood in short supply locally
Florida’s Blood Centers, the local blood bank, is asking for donations immediately for all blood types, but especially O negative.
O Negative is the universal donor type of blood and is used in emergency and trauma situations. An increased hospital usage has greatly depleted the supply of O negative. Each donation will likely be transfused into a patient in a local hospital within 48 hours.
Giving blood is simple and takes under an hour. Every donor receives a mini-physical and a screening with each donation.
The public is encouraged to call 888-9DONATE (936-6283) for center locations to make a donation.
