Cape Coral

Cape Coral Yacht Club

Come celebrate the sunset at the beach and listen to live music with Tom Treffi from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday. Also enjoy food and drink specials at KC’s Riverstop. More than 40 vendors will be selling their arts and crafts, jewelry, gift items and more. The event is free.

On Dec. 17 from noon-7 p.m., celebrate yacht club style. Listen to live music on the beach with arts and crafts on the sidewalk and pavilion. There will be kids crafts, games and photo opportunities. The event is free to the public.

Beginner’s kayaking

A beginner’s guide to kayaking course will be held from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at Four Mile Cove Ecological Preserve. Cost is $25 for Cape residents and $28 for non-residents. Rock ‘Til You Drop Car Show and Concert

The 4th Annual Rock ‘Til You Drop Car Show and Concert will be held Sunday at Sun Splash Family Waterpark. There will be a daylong car show and concert with Oldies Rock ‘N Roll groups such as George Gallo’s Mystics, Uptown Express, Del Prados, Wild Fire and Brylcream.

Spectator admission is $6 per day, and a portion benefits Progeria Research Foundation. Progeria is a fatal, rapid aging disease that afflicts children causing them to die of old age complications. Show car pre-registration is $15 and $20 at the gate.

Sun Splash Family Waterpark is located at 400 Santa Barbara Blvd. The event will include 20 food vendors and beer sales. For information, call 229-8526.

Lake Kennedy Senior Center

The Lake Kennedy Senior Center presents a trip to Orlando: Ice at the Gaylord Palms Resort/Festival Bay Mall in Orlando on Dec. 18. Arrive at the center at 8:15 a.m. Leave at 8:30 a.m. Lunch is Dutch treat at the Festival Bay Mall. Cost is $75 per person for members and $85 per person for non-members.

Holiday Open House

The Robin Dawn Academy of Performing Arts, 934 Country Club Blvd., is hosting a Holiday Open House from 1-4 p.m. Saturday.

A free jazz class from 1:30-2 p.m. and a free hip hop class from 2-2:30 p.m. Entertainment provided by the Robin Dawn Academy “Legend” Competition dancers. Refreshments will be served. For details, call 574-0827.

Florida Yards and Neighborhoods class

Florida Yards and Neighborhoods presents the nine principles to having a Florida friendly yard. Hurricane resistant trees and plants, as well as proper maintenance, efficient irrigation and more. Clean Air Christmas

The American Lung Association of Florida presents its 21st anniversary Clean Air Christmas today. Dinner and desert buffet at 6 p.m. Classic holiday show at 8 p.m. One hundred silent auction items. Singing Christmas Tree

Fort Myers Woman’s Community Club announces that it is reviving the Singing Christmas Tree, a tradition from past Holiday House years.

The tiered Singing Christmas Tree will hold 60 people and will be set-up at the Langford-Kingston Home with one performance each night at 7 p.m. The event will be open to the public beginning Sunday through Dec. 20 from 5-9 p.m. Cost is $5 for adults. Children 12 and under are free.

‘Christmas Across the Lands’

Randy Sherwyn, program director of Sunny 106 WJPT-FM and 106.3 HD2, a Beasley Broadcast radio station located in Southwest Florida, will host the 9th annual “Christmas Across the Lands,” a 12-hour radio Christmas show that airs mainly on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in markets across America and overseas.

This year the show will be heard by military personnel stationed in more than 175 countries around the globe.

Locally, Christmas Across the Lands will be broadcast on Beasley’s Southwest Florida radio stations, B103.9 WXKB-FM, Sunny 106 WJPT-FM and 96 K-Rock WRXK-FM.

‘Pinocchio’

Broadway Palm Children’s Theatre presents “Pinocchio” on today, Friday, Sunday, Tuesday, Dec. 12, 13, 16, 17, 19, 23 and 26. This timeless classic of honesty and respect is perfect family entertainment.

Senior holiday giving tree

The law firm of Osterhout, McKinney & Prather announces that it will host a holiday giving tree to aid local senior citizens residing in area nursing homes.

According to Paul Bagley, office administrator for Osterhout, McKinney & Prather, the firm has been working with area nursing homes who have provided the needs of their most isolated seniors. These wishes will be placed on cards on the company’s holiday giving tree located in the lobby of the Fort Myers office.

Interested participants are asked to stop by the office at 3783 Seago Lane, Fort Myers, or call 939-4888 to pick a senior to adopt from the tree.

Sanibel

T-shirt design contest

The Clinic for Rehabilitation of Wildlife invites students in kindergarten through 12th grade to enter a T-shirt design contest in celebration of its upcoming 40th anniversary and the grand opening of its new Visitor Education Center and wildlife hospital.

The winning T-shirt design will make its debut at the grand opening event Jan. 25, and shirts will be for sale at CROW’s gift shop throughout 2009 to raise funds for the nonprofit organization.

One contest finalist will be selected from each grade level, and one winning design will be chosen from the 13 finalists. CROW will display the 13 finalists’ artwork at the Visitor Education Center.

Students must include a raccoon, burrowing owl and the word CROW in the design. Designs must be submitted on 8.5-by-11 white paper. Students must sign their design.
