Airport announce July traffic numbers
During July, 492,114 passengers traveled through Southwest Florida International Airport, a decrease of 0.9 percent compared to July 2014. Year-to-date, passenger traffic is up 3.9 percent from the same period last year.
The traffic leader in July was Delta with 118,528 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers. Rounding out the top five airlines were Southwest (107,929), JetBlue (61,792), US Airways (47,331) and American (38,021).
Southwest Florida International Airport had 4,585 aircraft movements (takeoffs and landings), a decrease of 1.6 percent compared to July 2014. Page Field saw 6,472 movements, a 12.4 percent decrease from July 2014. In addition, nearly 2.6 million pounds of air freight moved through Southwest Florida International Airport in July 2015, an increase of 2 percent compared to July 2014.
Southwest Florida International Airport served more than 7.9 million passengers in 2014 and is one of the top 50 U.S. airports for passenger traffic. Yanez joins Lee County Port Authority
Hector Yanez, P.E., has joined the Lee County Port Authority as director of engineering and construction. He is responsible for managing all designs, studies and analyses related to airport improvement projects. He will also coordinate the work, management and administration of all construction activities at Southwest Florida International Airport and Page Field.
Yanez comes to the Lee County Port Authority with more than 15 years of experience in commercial construction, development and project management, including more than 10 years of airport project work. Most recently, he was a project manager for Manhattan Construction in Naples, Fla. Prior to that, he held various roles at Owen-Ames-Kimball, Inc. and worked as a field engineer at Noriega Campino & Cia. in Colombia.
Yanez has a master of science in construction engineering and project management from The University of Texas at Austin and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the Industrial University of Santander in Bucaramanga, Colombia. He is a Florida Certified Professional Engineer and LEED Accredited Professional.

Gladwell to attend Angus Convention
Britt Gladwell of Fort Myers has been elected as an alternate delegate to the 132nd Annual American Angus Association Convention of Delegates, Nov. 5, at the Overland Park Convention Center in Overland Park, Kansas, reports Richard Wilson, Interim CEO of the American Angus Association.
Gladwell, a member of the American Angus Association with headquarters in Saint Joseph, Missouri, is one of 309 Angus breeders who have been elected by fellow members to serve as an alternate state representative to the annual meeting. Representing 46 states, District of Columbia and Canada, the state delegates will participate in the business meeting and elect new officers and five directors to the American Angus Association board.
The annual meeting will take place in conjunction with the 2015 Angus Means Business National Convention and Trade Show, Nov. 3-5, in Overland Park. The event is open to anyone in the cattle business and will feature high-profile keynote speakers; educational sessions; the International Angus Genomics Symposium; entertainment; evening galas; prize giveaways; and an expansive trade show. to host inaugural ‘Access to Technology Fair’
The Florida Small Business Development Center at Florida Gulf Coast University will host “Access to Technology Fair” Wednesday, Sept. 23, from 8 a.m. to noon, at the Holiday Inn, Fort Myers Airport, 9931 Interstate Commerce Drive, Fort Myers.
The event is free and businesses will have the opportunity to meet with technology specialists. Participants will learn about new and upcoming technology solutions for their business, including new product demonstrations by technology providers. FPRA Southwest Florida Chapter
receives awards
The Florida Public Relations Association honored the FPRA Southwest Florida Chapter with several awards at the 77th Annual FPRA State Conference in Orlando, Fla. Members from 15 chapters across the state and public relations professionals from around the nation and abroad, were on hand for four days of professional development, networking and recognition of their peers.
FPRA State President Rachel Smith, APR, CPRC, presented the FPRA South-west Florida Chapter with two awards – one in Accreditation and Certification and the other in Student Development. The FPRA Southwest Florida Chapter was the only chapter in the state to be honored with two awards.
An individual award was given to chapter member Kara Winton, APR, CPRC. She received the Doris Fleischman Award, which honors the contributions an individual member of FPRA has made to the public relations profession and/or to FPRA. This statewide “unsung hero” award recognizes an individual who consistently provides support and assistance to the association.
The chapter was also the winner of the 2015 Chapter Challenge, which is given to the chapter that did the most to promote the annual conference, participated in Local and Golden Image Awards and participated in the new membership renewal social media campaign.
The local FPRA student chapter at Florida Gulf Coast University also took home several awards for its efforts in public relations. It received a Golden Image Award for its FGCU FPRA Internship Fair 2014. This was the only student entry in the state to receive a Golden Image Award.
In addition, FGCU chapter President Molly Nurczyk was awarded the Bob Davis Florida Public Relations Education Foun-dation Scholarship, which recognizes her efforts to support the professional development of students studying to enter the public relations profession.

Further development
planned at Six Bends
Six Bends, the mixed-use development by Scott Fischer Enterprises and home to Six Bends Harley-Davidson, is preparing to undergo further development.
Ground will soon be broken again on the 16.5-acre project, located near Interstate 75 and Daniels Parkway in Fort Myers, to create phase II, an additional 37,000 square feet of mixed-use space. Made up of four, two-story buildings aligned together, it will host restaurants, a brewery, retail shops and professional service businesses, creating an atmosphere unlike anything else in Southwest Florida.
