Florida Bar honors two local, 50-year members
Two attorneys from the 20th Judicial Circuit will be among 124 attorneys honored by The Florida Bar on Friday, June 26, for 50 years of dedication to the practice of law.
The attorneys are James Thomas Smoot Jr. and George T. Swartz, both of Fort Myers.
Their service to the profession will be acknowledged during a luncheon at The Florida Bar’s Annual Convention, being held at the Orlando World Center Marriott from June 24 to June 27.
To be recognized, attorneys must be members in good standing of The Florida Bar and attain their 50th anniversary of admittance to the practice of law in 2009.
Senior Counselors – who’ve practiced for 50 years or more but have not been members of The Florida Bar for the entire period – will also be recognized at the luncheon.
The 20th Judicial Circuit encompasses Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry and Lee counties.
The luncheon is sponsored by The Florida Bar’s Young Lawyers Division and will be held June 26 at 12:30 p.m.
The Hon. Joseph W. Hatchett, a 50-year honoree and former Florida Supreme Court justice and former chief judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit, will be the featured speaker.
