Family Thrift Center plans grand opening with events

By Staff | Sep 5, 2008

Family Thrift Centers, Fort Myers’ popular used clothing and household furnishing store, will mark its official grand opening on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at the store in its new building on Colonial Boulevard near Winkler Avenue. Its new location affords it more accessibility to Lee County shoppers from Lehigh Acres, Fort Myers, Cape Coral and travelers on Interstate 75, which is only 1.5 miles east of the new location.

The store, which opened on U.S. 41 in 2003, re-open in the former 84 Lumber building at 4231 Colonial Blvd. and it will mark its grand opening with many activities and incentives for shoppers on Sept. 10, including:

n Giveaways and prize drawings during store hours, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., as well as pre-store hours.

n Live broadcast from Fox4 Rising.

n Early bird specials for Family Thrifty Fifty shoppers including veterans from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.

n A Family Health Centers health fair, including free blood-pressure screenings, blood-sugar evaluations and cancer screenings.

n A morning remote from 1440-AM Ke Bueno WWCL radio, which also will have prize giveaways and food from Chile Ranchero.

n An afternoon remote from Oldies 92.5 with prizes, including refreshments and giveaways such as tickets to events at the Barbara B. Mann Hall Performing Arts Hall, the Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre, and the Edison Pops Concert featuring the band, Blood, Sweat & Tears.

n A ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4:30 p.m. with the Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce.

Family Thrift purchases its merchandise from veterans’ organizations and handles more than 5,000 newly priced items each day. Discounts are added on most items for seniors 50 and over on Wednesdays. Unlike many thrift stores, Family Thrift is well lighted and organized by color, creating a more-organized shopping experience.

“We welcome the community to check out our new store, which offers an affordable way for families to outfit themselves while also finding something fun or special they might not find somewhere else,” said owner Deirdre Mann. “In light of the fragile economy, it just makes ‘cents’ to shop at Family Thrift Center, doesn’t it,” Mann said.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m., Sunday. The phone number at the 17,000-square-foot site is 274-8821.
