The Collier County Coastal Zone Management and Parks and Recreation Departments will temporarily close the 951 boat ramp access to finalize the expansion of boat trailer and other parking for the popular boat launch site. The closure will begin Monday, Aug. 17, and will last an estimated three weeks including weekends.

Currently, the boat launch location has just 19 trailer spots, too few to accommodate the number of boaters using the 951 boat ramp.

Under the new plan, there will be 88 parking spaces including handicap parking. This will significantly reduce the need for boaters to park along the side of 951 after launching at the location.

The 951 boat ramp expansion should be completed by early fall in 2009.
