Lee County’s unemployment rate hit 13 percent for June, representing 35,784 people out of work, according to the Agency for Workforce Innovation.

The rate is up from a revised rate of 12.5 percent for May, and almost doubled from June 2008 when the unemployment rate was 7.9 percent.

According to the state agency, Florida’s unemployment rate is 10.6 percent, representing 970,000 people currentl out of work.
