FMPD crime stats now online
Starting today, people can now track crime in the city of Fort Myers with the touch of a button. The Fort Myers Police Department has installed a crime mapping program on its Web site. All you have to do is use your computer and click on the following link: www.fmpolice.com/crimemap.
Chief Doug Baker said the new system is required in the department’s efforts to be transparent.
“Part of our mission is to provide the most effective and efficient law enforcement services in Florida,” he said. “This system allows everyone to see where, when and what types of crimes are occurring.”
In addition, Chief Baker hopes it inspires people to get involved.
“Residents need to take an active role in our community,” he said. “Crime prevention is everyone’s responsibility and we need citizens to report suspicious activity and be good neighbors.”
The Web site tracks all homicides, assaults, auto thefts, burglaries, robberies and thefts. In addition it also maps sex offenders.
