Sheriff’s Office traffic enforcement update for Tuesday
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit will target at least one of the following three locations for enforcement Tuesday, March 24:
1. Daniels Parkway, Fort Myers
2. Corkscrew Road, Estero
3. North River Road (State Road 78), Alva
Locations are selected based upon high incidents of crashes, traffic surveys and citizen complaints. The Sheriff’s Office is committed to promoting traffic safety and enforcing the law. By focusing on violations such as red light running, speeding, DUI and others, motorists become more alert and are encouraged to obey traffic laws. The Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit and District Patrol Deputies enforce our traffic laws each day by issuing citations and warnings.
Preliminary results from their cumulative activity Friday are as follows:
Citations Issued: 92
Written Warnings Issued: 134
Citizens can help by letting us know if they observe problem areas, aggressive or impaired drivers and by their compliance with the rules of the road. Note: A sobriety checkpoint over the weekend resulted in nineteen (19) arrests. Various initiatives continue daily and are a part of our ongoing commitment to remove impaired drivers from our roadways and promote awareness including participation in nationwide crackdowns such as “Drunk Driving — Over the Limit, Under Arrest.” If you observe a drunk driver in Lee County you are encouraged to dial 9-1-1 and report them.
