Traffic stop leads to arrest

By Staff | Mar 6, 2009

On Thursday, March 5, at approximately 6 p.m, members of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Highway Interdiction Unit conducted a traffic stop on a black Range Rover traveling south on I-75 near mile marker 141. During the course of the traffic stop, deputies observed several indicators of possible criminal activity.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit responded to assist with the investigation, and a subsequent search of the vehicle revealed more than $80,000 in cash concealed in a plastic bag in the rear cargo area of the vehicle. Officers indicated the money was packaged in a way consistent with proceeds from the sale of narcotics.

Investigators questioned the driver of the vehicle, identified as Osner Exantus, 40, of Pompano Beach, Fla. After questioning, officers said Exantus was taken into custody and transported to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, where he was charged with money laundering and violation of the money transmitters act. He was then transported to the Lee County Jail.

Exantus last known address is listed as 5351N.E. 10th Ave., Pompano Beach.
